The meeting was called to order at 2:05 p.m.
- The minutes of November 19, 1999 were approved (Auld/Conway).
- Tom Burkholder passed along a message from John Rutherford that
the library now subscribes to MathSciNet from the American
Mathematical Society.
- The last item on the agenda was moved up without objection. Roy
Temple presented proposed designs for classroom computer display
equipment. The committee members preferred a rack at one side of the
room with a projector mounted on the ceiling. A wireless mouse and
keyboard may also be included. Members felt that a wireless device
to control the computer, audio and video components would not be
useful. Some members thought that the systems should include DVD and
touch whiteboards. These devices may be tested in one or two
rooms.
- Joan Calvert reported on the Academic Computing grant competition.
Seventeen projects were funded for a total of $25,000. The names of
the projects and recipients will be posted on the website. She
expects a report from the recipients that explains the impact of the
funding on their classes.
- Paul Altieri reported that all of the data for the computer
inventory has been received. He is in the process of contacting the
faculty members, the computer representatives and the department
chairs where the is some question about the information. Last year a
few faculty members who were eligible did not receive new computers.
We want to avoid having the same problem this year.
- Dave Blitz demonstrated the Curriculum Committee database that he
developed along with Tom Burkholder. The database will allow
appropriate users to view, modify and administer the information. In
the future departments proposing curriculum changes will be able to
complete an on-line form, print it out and collect the necessary
signatures.
- At the previous meeting David Blitz, Brian O'Connell and Rae
Schipke agreed to draft a set of policy guidelines on electronic
communication. They presented "Proposed Policy for Email
Communication for Faculty" to the committee. Members were asked
to consider the proposal for discussion at the next meeting.
- Bill Sherman announced that the budget timetable has been moved
up. He will need to know the number of computers that will need to
be replaced during the 2000-2001 fiscal year by March 8.
- The next meeting of the committee will be held on Friday, March 3, 2000 at 2:00
p.m. in the Media Center.
- The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
