The meeting was called to order at 2:05 p.m.

  1. There we no minutes of May 8, 2000 to consider.

  2. Announcements. Amy Magno introduced Tom Bohlke, the director of computer repair. Paul Altieri announced that the Faculty Listserv is running with 2 lists because the software only allows 200 members and we have over 350 on our list. Scott Evon said that new software, which will handle all of our members, will be running in a few weeks. Paul will have a student helper who will create classroom Powerpoint displays for faculty. Contact Paul for more information. An online course on teaching online is being offered. More information is available here.

  3. Elections. Clayton Penniman nominated Paul Altieri for secretary and moved that nominations be closed. Approved. The secretary cast one vote.

Tom Burkholder was nominated for Chair (Penniman/Larose). There were no other nominations. The secretary cast one vote.

  4. Roy Temple introduced Chad Valk, Assistant Director of the Media Center for video production. He also gave a demonstration of the new classroom equipment that is available in DiLoreto 202 where the meeting was held. There is a laptop computer, VCR, DVD player, document camera, sound system and a ceiling mounted projector. Roy is looking for feedback from faculty who use these units before he purchases additional equipment.

Sherry Pesino talked about the video collection in the Media Center. There is a complete inventory of all entries in the collection in a Filemaker Pro database on the web. The link is on the Media Center page. The Media Center has some funds for video purchases if desired titles are not available. Some videos are housed in the library. Titles in the library can be taken out by students. The Media Center collection is intended for classroom use. A change in policy is that all videos are loaned for one week, rather than an indefinite period of time as in the past.

  5. Bill Sherman addressed the deployment of new computers. The number one priority is the classrooms. There are 13 new rooms with display equipment on line this semester. In addition, some of the departmental labs have been equipped with new computers. The second priority is the new classroom building. There will be 195 computers for general classroom use. Also, 660 leased computers must be replaced during the current academic year.

There will be a study of the IS department to determine how we deliver technology on campus.

On September 21 Susan Rogers of Harvard University will present a series of workshops on campus dealing with technology in education.

  6. Banner deployment will continue over the next year and there will be workshops to train faculty and staff. Resource persons will be identified in each department and they will attend workshops so that they can assist their colleagues. Bob Hayes will attend the next meeting of the committee to answer questions about Banner. The IS department is trying to get information out on Banner. There is an online tutorial available on the IS department webpage.

Scott Evon told us that all new faculty will automatically be given a drive M share. Other faculty members should call the helpdesk to have a share started for them. The network share is also available for Mac users.

Amy Magno has packets for new faculty-one for PCs and another for MACs. They are available to others on request. More information is forthcoming in the department newsletter which will be sent to the campus community next week.

  7. The next meeting of the committee will be on Friday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. in Willard 005.

  8. The meeting was adjourned at 3:10 p.m.
