Faculty Load Credit Categories
| At the meeting of Arts and Sciences Chairs (9-21-99), a new form for
keeping track of full-time faculty teaching load was introduced. Although this form does
not replace the Universitys Faculty Load Report (generated at the end of the third
week, revised by chairs, and ultimately published by Tom Flahertys Office), it will
serve as our school-wide system for monitoring faculty load, and it will assure that all
departments and individual faculty members have detailed semester-by-semester faculty load
information. The Faculty Load Reporting Form can be downloaded by using the table at the top of this page. It is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. An explanation of the Faculty Load Credit Categories can be viewed by clicking here or the link above. For the sake of continuity with the Universitys Faculty Load Report and to aid you in correcting that data, the BOT approved reassigned time code numbers are noted in parenthesis on the categories sheet. After all the data is typed on the spreadsheet, a hard copy needs to be made. Full-time faculty should initial next to their names as evidence that what is being reported is accurate. Please note that a new category has been addedAccumulated Overload (this number should not include any payback posting for the current semester). This category did not appear on the form distributed at the Department Chairs Meeting. Chairs will sign and date the completed initialed form. A copy is then sent to the Deans Office, and another copy is kept in the official files of the department. How to Complete the Form 1. Type in the full-time faculty members names. 2. Place in each category the faculty members total number of load credit hours. Click here to view the Faculty Load Credit Categories. Particular courses or reassigned time assignments are not to be posted. See examples below:
3. Payback will be recorded as a minus number. 4. Payback load for the current semester should be deducted from the Accumulated Overload posting. 5. After all the data is inputted, make a hard copy and have each department member review the information and put his/her initials in the Faculty Initials column. The initialing indicates that the faculty member has seen this information and agrees that it is accurate. 6. The department chair signs and dates the form after all the full-time members of the department have reviewed and initialed the data concerning their load credit. Opportunity to Ask Questions and Learn More About This New Form Because it is important that each department monitor faculty load more accurately, completely and consistently, you are being asked to carefully read this cover memo, the categories sheet, and the spreadsheet before completing the Faculty Load Reporting Form. If you have any questions, please feel free to call (x22603) for clarification. In addition, Ross Baiera and Paul Altieri will hold a workshop on Friday, October 1 in the Continuing Education Conference Room at 9 a.m. for any department secretary or chair who wishes further instruction. |
