Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
These criteria must be met by new applicants for a CSMP scholarship as well as by those students whose scholarship is being renewed for the subsequent semester. Students must:
- Be a citizen of the United States, a national of the United States, an alien admitted as refugees, or an alien lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.
- Be a full time student.
- Be enrolled in or accepted to one of CSMP academic programs:
- Computer Science:
- BS is Computer Science, Honors
- BS in Computer Science, Alternative
- Mathematics:
- BA in Mathematics
- BA in Mathematics with Specialization in Actuarial Sciences
- BA in Mathematics with Specialization in Statistics
- BS in Mathematics (Certifiable for secondary teaching)
- Physics:
- BS in Physics
- BS in Physics (Certifiable for secondary teaching)
- Computer Science:
- Demonstrate academic talent or potential.
- Demonstrate a financial need.
Scholarship Application Requirements
These criteria must be met by those students who apply for a new CSMP scholarship. Successful applicants must demonstrate academic talent, commitment and motivation, time management and communication skills. Students are required to:
- Complete an application form.
- Write a personal essay:
- Explain your academic and career plans;
- Provide your reasons for majoring in one of CSMP disciplines;
- Explain what sets you apart from other applicants for the scholarship;
- Have the results of completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file at CCSU Office of Financial Aid.
- Provide up-to-date (unofficial) transcripts.
- Provide three letters of recommendation from current and/or past instructors. At least one letter should address your academic ability and suitability for the program. Preferably, the letters should be enclosed with the application, each in a separate envelope that has been sealed and signed by the recommender.
- For students currently enrolled at CCSU:
- Have an overall GPA of 3.0;
- Be on track to graduate in four years from the enrollment into the program;
- Be at least three semesters away from graduation at the time of acceptance to the program, according to CCSU degree evaluation report.
- For incoming freshmen students:
- Have an overall GPA of 3.0;
- Have an SAT score of at least 1100.
- For transfer students:
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all transfer courses accepted for credit towards the requirements of the corresponding CCSU major program (Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics);
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.75 in all transfer courses accepted for credit outside the requirements of the corresponding CCSU major program (Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics).
Scholarship Renewal Requirements
These criteria must be met by students whose scholarship is being renewed for the subsequent semester. Students must:
- Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0;
- Meet the requirements of the chosen degree program:
- Be on track to graduate in four years from the enrollment into the program;
- Take at least one course in their major discipline every semester;
- Participate in all activities required by the program;
- Meet all scholarship eligibility criteria (see above).
